Novel sources of resistance to powdery mildew (Leveillula taurica (Lév.) Arnaud) in pepper

چکیده

Peppers, a worldwide crop, are threatened by different pathogens. Powdery mildew, biotroph fungal infection, can cause several damages directly on vegetative parts and indirectly fruits. Despite some sources of resistance have been described, commercial genotypes only with partial developed due to the complex nature such variable genetic expression, which depends stage plants. In this paper 49 accessions from Capsicum species origins tested. Plants were grown in growth chambers inside mini greenhouses. Repeated inoculations under pepper leaves applied spraying suspension 104 conidia ml-1. Readings made at 30 60 days after inoculation (DAI). Total number (TL), total affected (LA), maximum area (MAA) most damaged leaf scored. addition, composite infection index (CII) was calculated basis three mentioned traits. Inoculated plants showed more severe symptoms DAI than DAI. Different response patterns observed: suffering high shedding others local hypersensitive response, indicating gene action. The use CII prevented bias disease response. present work, four highly tolerant identified, including two chiltepins, C. annuum wild relatives, Ag-01 Ag-02, A-06 A-23.

Loss of Function in Mlo Orthologs Reduces Susceptibility of Pepper and Tomato to Powdery Mildew Disease Caused by Leveillula taurica

Powdery mildew disease caused by Leveillula taurica is a serious fungal threat to greenhouse tomato and pepper production. In contrast to most powdery mildew species which are epiphytic, L. taurica is an endophytic fungus colonizing the mesophyll tissues of the leaf. In barley, Arabidopsis, tomato and pea, the correct functioning of specific homologues of the plant Mlo gene family has been foun...

Molecular Mapping of PMR1, a Novel Locus Conferring Resistance to Powdery Mildew in Pepper (Capsicum annuum)

Powdery mildew, caused by Leveillula taurica, is a major fungal disease affecting greenhouse-grown pepper (Capsicum annuum). Powdery mildew resistance has a complex mode of inheritance. In the present study, we investigated a novel powdery mildew resistance locus, PMR1, using two mapping populations: 102 'VK515' F2:3 families (derived from a cross between resistant parental line 'VK515R' and su...

Efficiency of resistance genes in wheat to powdery mildew in some centers of disease incidence in Iran

Wheat powdery mildew caused by fungal pathogen Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici is a destructive wheat disease, occurring in regions with cool and humid climates. In order to investigate the changes in pathogenicity of the disease and to identify the effective genetic source of resistance, a total of 29 wheat genotypes with different resistance major genes (Pm) were studied in two hotspots of Go...
